Palisades Fire 2025

The Los Angeles Fires - Pacific Palisades (including Malibu) and Eaton - are the largest wildfire disasters in US history, both lasting 25 days. The Palisades fire, probably caused by arson, and the Eaton fire, caused by faulty Southern California Edison power lines, are now the most costly wildfires in world history, causing economic losses of more than $100 billion. The Eaton fire killed 19 people; the Palisades fire, 12. Some 200,000 people were forced to evacuate, over 18,000 homes and structures were destroyed, and more than 58,000 acres of land burned across Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Topanga and Altadena.
The premise of this project poses the question: In the face of devastation and chaos can beauty and sublimity arise from destruction and disaster. Can Art be born from tragedy?
